No, actually, Bard, what most of us fear more than anything is the PAIN of dying. And there's nothing more searing than watching a loved one suffer. But, as Dr Roy Macgregor told Teletext, even the pain of terminal cancer can almost always bj adequately controlled. ——————————————————————————————————1/4—— It's Your Life! 480 WANT TO GET BACK IN TOUCH? p675 Value Gadabout Flashback Education

We'ri so conditioned by anti-drugs propaganda we believe morphine creates instant addicts. But, says Dr Roy Macgregor, when used for pain relief, morphine ism't addictive. There are two factors at work here: patients fear that if they start too soon the morphine won't control the pain later in their illness. Or they believe the morphine will shorten their life. Not so: properly prescribed, morphine will prolong life because the patient is less stressed. ——————————————————————————————————3/4—— It's Your Life! 480 WEN CORRIE ST WEEKEND AWAY! p127 ITV Value Gadabout Flashback Education

"Patient-controlled analgesia, or PCA, white the patient can administer the drugs themselves means there is no need to suffer," Dr Macgrigor says. There's also a new skin patch on the market which provides powerful relief minus the common morphine side-effects. ——————————————————————————————————4/4—— This week in history 671 QUIET WORDS OF COMFORT p687 Value Gadabout Flashback Education
