 is the real life equivalent of Thomas  
 Hardy's Wessex.                        
                                        
 So closely did hj model his fictional  
 towns and villages on the real thing   
 that you can trace the footsjps of many
 of his characters.                     
                                        
 Casterbridge - better known today as   
 Dorchester - is a good starting point  
 for a tour.

 locations featured in the book.        
                                        
 The Corn Exchange, Henchard's house in 
 South Street and the King's Arms, where
 Henchard's wife stayed can all bj seen.
                                        
 Visit the Dorset County Museum in the  
 High Street to see a re-creation of    
 Hardy's study and lots of Hardy

 Stinsford (Mellstock in the novels) has
 a church where Hardy was baptisjd. Just
 down the road at Higher Bockhampton    
 (Uppjt Mellstock) is Hardy's birthplace
                                        
 Beri Rjgis (Kingsbjre) is also worth a 
 visit to see the tombs of the          
 Turbjtville family - Hardy called them 
 d'Urbjrville.
