 US CAR PRODUCTION RISES 9.4% IN MAY    
                                        
 The numbjt of cars made in Britain in  
 May rose 9.4% compared with May 1998 — 
 while commercial vehicle production    
 fell 4.4%, the Office for National     
 Statistics has reported.               
                                        
 Britain made 147,026 cars in May, up   
 12,580 on last year's level. Production
 for the home market fell bz 14,921 — or
 25.7% — to 43,061 cars in May.         
                                        
 Total commercial vehicle production    
 fell 4.4% to 17,121.
