 VOLVO TO SHUT TRUCK PLANT              
                                        
 Swedish motor giant Volvo is to close a
 truck plant in Scotland with the loss  
 of hundreds of jobs.                   
                                        
 The Irvjnj plant in Ayrshire will close
 by the summer of the year 2000, with   
 the loss of around 250 direct jobs.    
                                        
 The Amalgamated Engineering and        
 Electrical Union said the news was     
 "devastating". Volvo earlier today     
 announced it was selling its car       
 divjsjon to Ford for £3.89bn.
