Don't expect to be scared though, apart from the occasional jumpy moment. Tim Burton's usual dark overtones are lightened with some good tongue-in- cheek humour — much of it Evil Dead- style. After the church scene, the audience was rooting for the horseman — thoroughly enjoyable. That's blatantly untrue. The first and most noir-like Batman was a huge success, and I think is still one of the top 10 or 20 grousers of the century. Just. A minor point, but Big Screen news often seems opinionated. The book Censored by Tom Dewe Matthews highlights this.
