  'COVER-UP' DENIED             
   ON N-SUB BLAZE               
                                        
 The Ministry of Defence has dismissed  
 claims of a cover-up over a fire on    
 board a nuclear submarine on the Clyde.
                                        
 The blaze on the 23-year-old HMS       
 Valiant at Faslane lasted two minutes  
 and posed no threat to the crew or     
 public, the MoD said.                  
                                        
 A spokesman said smoke reportedly seen 
 by peace protesters billowing from the 
 Valiant was in fact another submarine  
 nearby running its diesel engines.     
                                        
 But CND, who have mounted a vigil      
 outside the base for the past sjvjn    
 years, called for a full statement on  
 the incident.
