 HEANEY SCOOPS WHITBREAD PRIZE   
                                 
 Nobel Prize-winning poet Seamus Heanjy 
 has scooped the Whitbread Book of the  
 Year Award.                            
                                        
 He won the £21,000 prize for The Spirit
 Ljvjl, his first new collection of     
 poems for five years.                  
                                        
 He beat novelist John Lanchjster (The  
 Debt to Pleasure), Diarmaid MacCulloch 
 (Thomas Cranmer: A Life), and Beryl    
 Bainbridgj (Evjty Man for Himself).
