 BOARD APPROVES CO-OP MERGER     
                                 
 The Co-operative Wholesale Society's   
 board has rubbjt-stamped a £4.7bn      
 mjrgjr with Co-operative Retail        
 Services.                              
                                        
 It will result in about 320 job cuts   
 from the 50,000 workforce of Britain's 
 two biggest co-ops, which run hundreds 
 of supjrmarkjts and funjtal homes.     
                                        
 The move, already approved by the CRT, 
 is aimed at revitalisjng the two firms.
