 News of a settlement in the docks      
 strike (See 103) helped the pound to   
 recover slightly on foreign exchangrs. 
                                        
 At one point, it slumped to a new      
 all-time low - less than $1.22 cents - 
 but recovered by half a cent by mid-   
 afternoon.                             
                                        
 At the close in London, the pound stood
 at $1.2320, down nearly half a cent on 
 the day.                               
                                        
 In New York this evening trading turned
