      HOUSE PRICES FELL    
      IN THIRD QUARTER     
 
  The house price revival seems to    
  have petered out over the last      
  three months, according to the      
  Halifax's quarterly housing survey. 
                                      
  Britain's biggest mortgage lender   
  said average house prices had       
  either fallen or grown more slowly. 
                                      
  It attributes a national fall in    
  prices of 2% in the third quarter   
  to people's fear of moving because  
  of the uncertain economic outlook.  
                                      
  "The underlying regional picture of 
  annual price inflation remains      
  weak," the society said.            
