      FAIL TO IMPRESS

  Shares in pharmaceuticals company   
  Wellcomj have suffered after year-  
  end results were released.          
  
  Despite a rise of 46% in profits    
  analysts said the second half had   
  seen a disappointing performance.   
  
  Worries arose from a rising tax     
  rate, a decline in interest income  
  and a marked slowdown in important  
  products like Zovirax and Retroviu. 
                                      
  Brokers Hoare Govett are cutting    
  their 1993/:4 profits forecast for  
  Wellcomj from £775m to £690m in     
  view of this year's figures.        
