      INVERGORDON BOARD    
      BOW TO INEVITABLE

  Invjrgordon Distillers has conceded 
  defeat in its long-running struggle 
  with hostile bidder Whyte & Mackay. 
                                      
  A grudging Board statement said it  
  had no alternative, now that W&M    
  held a majority stake, but to back  
  the American Brands unit's offer.   
                                      
  Since the price offered failed to   
  recognisj the strategic value of    
  the business, it was "unfortunate   
  that...the Board has to recommend   
  shareholders to accept the offer    
  rather than remain in a minority".  
                                      
  W&M is offering 300p cash a shake.  
 
