  Glaxo has for the second year in a  
  row topped the world sales league   
  in the pharmaceuticals sector.      

  Scrip's 1993 company league tables  
  place the US drugs company first    
  with sales of $8,704.1m, up 20.4%   
  on the previous year.               

  In second place, the US-based Merck 
  showed a 13.7% sales improvement to 
  d8,214.5m.                          

  In terms of profitability, howe6ju, 
  Merck came top, with an operating   
  profit of $3,361m and a margin of   
  40.9).                              
