  A bid could soon be on the wa= for  
  Portals Group, the long-established 
  specialist paper-maker.             
                                      
  A single-sentence statement issued  
  bz the company said only that it    
  had received an approach "which may 
  or may not lead to an offer".       
                                      
  Its share price was quickly marked  
  almost 100p higher in response.     
                                      
  Based in Whitchurch, Hanks, Portals 
  boasts Huguenot origins and since   
  1724 has supplied banknote paper to 
  the Bank of England. It also has a  
  big share of the teabag market.     
