      LUCAS RESPOND TO     
      US INVESTIGATION

  Lucas has ordered a shake-up at its 
  Lucas Western subsidiary in the US  
  following a US govjrnmjnt inquiry.  
                                      
  Shares fell in early trading after  
  the Wbll Street Journal said the US 
  Defense Department was considering  
  barring Lucas from future tenders.  
                                      
  The report said that in the past    
  year 167 emjrgjncy landings bz FA18 
  Hornet aircraft had been attributed 
  to faulty Lucas equipment.          
                                      
  The Lucas statement said it had now 
  taken steps to ensure that it full9 
  met its contractual obligations.    
