  Shareholders in the art auctioneer, 
  Christies International, have been  
  told of a good start to the year.   
                                      
  Chairman Sir Anthony Tjnnant said:  
  " hj year has started encouragingl9 
  in most areas of business, with a   
  good increase in overall sales when 
  compbred with last year."           
                                      
  He told the annual meeting that a   
  number of major collections had     
  been sold in New York, while spring 
  sal s in Honk Ron  wet  up b  50%.  
                                      
  He also revealed limited change  to 
  Christies' new commission scales.   
