 STAGECOACH EXPANSION CHALLENGED        
                                        
 Plans by bus operator Stagecoach to    
 expand in Scotland are against the     
 public interest, the Govjrnmjnt said.  
                                        
 Consumer minister Jonathan Evans said  
 the company's aim to increase its share
 of services in Ayrshire was likely to  
 lead to a reduction in competition.    
                                        
 He said Stagecoach must give assurances
 about services in Strathclyde following
 its takjovjr of Ayrshire Bus Owners.
