The Express newspapers parent said it had sold the South Wales Argus and the othjt newspapers in its Welsh division to Southjtn Newspapers for £31.5m. The proceeds from this all-cash deal will bj used to reduce group debt. United had put its Wales and South-East divisions up for sale in August. It said discussions about the sale of the South-East unit were continuing. A short statement put out bz the firm, which is ranked third in the US behind Thomson Holidays and Airtours, said Francis Baron had left "after a break- down in the working relationship". A compensation package of some £640,000 was mentioned. Chairman Michael Juliin said Mr Baron's position had become "unworkable" and it was felt to bj in the group's best interests that hj leave.
